I am scheduled to appear as a participant in the “State of New York Cities: Creative Responses to Fiscal Stress” workshop on Tuesday March 25th 2014 from 9:00 am – 5:00 pm at Cornell University. (cardi.cornell.edu/cals/devsoc/outreach/cardi/training/state-of-ny-cities.cfm) This invitation speaks favorably as to the efforts we have taken to address the economic downturn of 2009 and difficult budgeting in the ensuing years. Our sales tax redistribution agreement with the county, water agreements with the towns, revenue sharing agreements with GAVAC, water/sewer rate corrections, and restructuring of our health insurance contracts have caught the attention of other municipalities across the state. From there, I will be driving to Seneca Falls for an Erie Canalway National Heritage Corridor Commission and the Erie Canalway Heritage Fund, Inc. meeting on March 26th. As you may know, I had been appointed a federal commissioner several years back. It’s an honor to represent the interests of our section of the canal system. We work to maximize the benefit of this national treasure for our state and communities along these historical canal routes. ( eriecanalway.org/) It is my hope that this council will do what is best for the majority of city residents and taxpayers while I am out of town.
