I am sharing a story regarding the status quo cleanup plan - TopicsExpress

I am sharing a story regarding the status quo cleanup plan proposed by Shell Canada that appears in todays Chronicle Herald. Shell has called for expressions of interest - publicly - for the provision of Corexit for use at the Shelburne drill site. You can find this expression of interest here: mebons.ca/wp-content/uploads/Shell-26-Incident-Preparedness-Equipment-EOI-July2-14.pdf I encourage everyone to search corexit deepwater horizon in Google and learn about the effect the use of this dispersant has had on marine and human life along the shores of the Gulf of Mexico. The Harper government recently passed a bill in the House of Commons that is presently being considered by the Senate called C-22 that relaxes the rules under which oil companies can use dispersants, and allows for oil companies to self-regulate and deploy corexit amongst other dispersants if they believe it is the best way to clean up an oil spill. It is a common misconception that the Deepwater Horizon oil spill was cleaned up; in fact, the oil was simply sunk below the surface with a dispersant, and made to vanish from public view and the media eye. 97% of the oil that wall spilled is sitting on the ocean floor and washing up on the coastline, along with millions of litres of dispersant. I am in favour of the safe harvest of natural resources that promotes energy independence; this harvesting must protect human life by protecting our ecosystem. The Shelburne Basin is connected to some of the worlds most important fish habitats. These fish provide life directly and indirectly to humans worldwide. It is my belief that all safety measures must be put in place to ensure that offshore oil wells are drilled and operating in the safest way possilbe. The evidence is clear that corexit when mixed with oil creates a toxic mixture that kills marine life and effects human health when people come in contact with the resulting tar balls that wash up onshore, and float inshore. Nova Scotia is blessed with many gifts, including an ocean playground that surrounds us and provides sustenance for our people. There is a Nova Scotia company called EST that has developed an oil spill cleanup machine. It is a far safer plan for oil spill cleanup than the use of Corexit. I urge everyone to follow this issue as we work towards a solution that allows for the safest extraction of oil on our shores. My Friends, I encourage everyone to share this post with their Friends:
