I am sharing this NOT to blindly raise a cause flag, but rather to express my opinion about it on my own timeline instead of hijacking someone elses thread! Heres my response: SO??!!? In my opinion, everyone has the opportunity to better themselves here in our great country. I do NOT believe that we should gather up all the wealth and distribute it evenly among everyone -- that experiment has been tried. I am not in favor of allowing people to starve, but I do believe that people who receive benefits funded by the public have an OBLIGATION to make the most of what they receive, and an OBLIGATION to educate themselves to maximize those benefits. For example, $55 will buy: 3 lbs of steak, 3 lbs. of chicken, 2 dozen eggs, 1 lb bacon, bread and meat for 2 for 5 days of sandwiches, chips. (per this weeks Kroger ad) OR it will buy 2 dinners out at a medium priced restaurant for two people. Or it will buy enough rice to make 70 1/2 cup servings, and enough beans to make 60 1/2 cup servings and leave you $43 in change....or it will buy about a dozen specialty coffee drinks at Coffeebucks. Oh, and I eat rice and beans happily and often. But my MAIN point is this. No one should be indentured or starving. Everyone should contribute to the public good...but CONTRIBUTE. It is not legitimate to say that rich people shouldnt be rich, only that they shouldnt be accorded more rights than poor people. Everyone should have the same accountability under law for their actions. So go make your mark on the world, just know you dont have a right to stick your hand in someone elses pocket. Ditch the Code, institute flat tax, start collecting from the evaders, corporate and private -- prioritize domestic infrastructure, affordable housing, ending childhood hunger. Stepping down off my soapbox now.
