I am sharing this on my personal page because Id like to encourage anyone with family or friends in the PHM school system to reassure anyone they know that this is a 100% FALSE statement that I viewed on WSBTs Facebook posts. I WISH that was our problem with PHM bus system!!!! Our problem is the windows on the bus arent open. Majority of children on our route our young and in order to open the bus window they would have to stand on the seat. We asked the bus driver if she could possibly open some of the windows to get a cross breeze going because the kids were getting off the bus with sweat rolling off their faces, hair wet from sweating, cloths damp, and cheeks beat red!!! My LORD Im heaven, you would have thought we were asking for the world!!!! We, per the bus driver were told thats not her job!!!! Also, we explained how the heat could trigger an asthma attack for a child on that bus.... Response from driver was; well he better know how to treat himself if he does because THATS not her job either!!!! Im just sickened by the Director of transportation and all his employees reaction!! I drove bus in the state of Connecticut for 8yrs and this is NOT how we treated parents ..EVER!!! It was my job to get those children to and from school safety and if that meant opening windows for hot kids? I did it. I kept my eye on the little girl that was prone to seizures. WHATEVER it took. The safety and comfort of every student on our bus is our responsibility. A considerate driver, and there are many more than arent, will have the windows open to the allowed level BEFORE students board the bus. Once we are rolling we cannot leave the driver seat to lower or raise windows. Ill not deny that some drivers have been stringent on the policy but to say they are sickened by the Director of transportation and all his employees reaction!! I is almost slanderous! Last year our director of transportation was the first Id ever seen that arranged for each student to be provided with a bottle of water to take on the bus. Beverages of any kind are not allowed but he saw this as a clear exception to that rule. He has made numerous mentions on the radio, in fact on Tuesday of this week, that drivers should allow and encourage students to lower the windows down to the acceptable level. If you have a problem with someone dont embarrass yourself by telling outrageous lies about the person. He aint perfect but he sure as hell isnt guilty of this!
