I am sharing this video in place of an Ed post today. Ed was big into allowing particular ecosystems to exist in long corridors, like the Prairie Path in the Midwest, because of this very type of intra- and inter-species communication. He would have loved this video because most of his career was spent in chemistry, and the need for chemical and genetic signals to move through the soil was a big part of his ecological perspective. If we cant just leave these systems alone, we have to learn how to integrate with them--as a small part, not the ruler. We dont know enough to rule.
