I am shocked and angry. Too many leave us too soon. Too many creative, deep-feeling hearts are irreparably broken, and with the audiences eye trained carefully upon them, give way. Self-harm and suicide seem like options and the darkness prevails. I want to be a force for positive change. Hold to the good bits, release the bad bits, and carry on. Robin Williams, as John Keating in the Dead Poets Society, spoke: Boys, you must strive to find your own voice. Because the longer you wait to begin, the less likely you are to find it at all. Thoreau said, Most men lead lives of quiet desperation. Dont be resigned to that. Break out! This movie inspired me to teach and the events of today push my fingers to the keys and type my own message: To all my artist babies out there who FEEL and FEEL things DEEPLY. You have a say. Dont be resigned to quiet desperation. If you need help, call out into the universe. You are not alone. We can help each other. Dont wait. Put away your plans of pain and loss. Stand up on your desk to rip a new perspective from the air around you. Be bold, be daring, be funny or sad----BUT BE. Be brave enough to be ALIVE. Do not lie down on the train tracks of your demons and exchange your dreams for imaginary relief. Get up. Write. Speak. Laugh. Cry. Share. Tell your story. We are listening. You are wanted.
