I am shocked by the shootings that are taking place in Ottawa. And yet they seem to make sense. Harper decides to go to war and war starts in our own country. Seriously karmic. I was so excited to come home to Canada and even felt the (weird) swellings of patriotism in my heart when I saw first the Canadian flag, and then the Nova Scotian one. I breathed a sigh of relief to enter what I thought was a saner, less fear-stricken culture. Now I feel sick that we are implementing our counter-terrorism plan the day after we send over our fighter jets to Iraq. Isnt it so obvious that insanity begets insanity? Today, the national celebrations to honour nobel peace price recipients were cancelled. A soldier was shot at the War Memorial, and there were multiple shootings, and the killing of the murderer on Parliament Hill. My heart goes out to the families of all the victims-the solider-the innocent families in Iraq that will no doubt be part of our casualties. Nothing casual about death, Mr. Harper. Nothing casual at all. It was disturbing how one commentator remarked on whether it requires a different reaction if the shooter was mentally ill or was willing to die for a cause-meaning willing to murder for a cause. In my mind, murder is mentally ill, period. And so is Stephen Harper. It is mentally ill to think that murdering people-even specifically targeted bad people-will bring about peace. We live in a mentally ill culture that is sadly about to become more mentally ill-as we copy US foreign policy to death. I watched a documentary on Einstein the other night and was impressed with the extent of his pacifism. If only our leadership would follow the advice of the smartest man in history...When will they ever learn? When will they ever learn? I hope some of us are learning, and thank you to all of you working for/with peace! May peace rise. youtube/watch?v=T1tqtvxG8O4
