I am skipping around a bit. But, that is because I get these great memories, shots in my mind. I had earned most of my professional training as a pilot by 1977. I took a couple of backroads from 71 through 76. My Dad came and found me. Mostly at the Black Cat or Skyway bars in Idaho Falls. Oh, there was the Bon Villa as well. Haacha! Hot nuts, hot nuts get em from the peanut man!! There are those on this sight that will know what I mean!!! HA! I can not tell you how many times my Dad pulled me out of the gutter of life. I am thankful he was my Dad. I will come back to some of my Red Baron days later. But, now I just have this memory of my first experiences in an Ag airplane. I had always admired these guys. As a kid I watched in wonder everyday. Watching them dodge obsticles, go under power lines. They were always the first ones up for the day. You always knew it was time to get your ass in gear when you heard the crop dusters!!! Don Novas gave me a shot at this crazy and honorable profession. I spent several months working with Randy Gibson, trying to get the airplane Don gave me to fly ready for my first season as a spray pilot. On my first test run, I ran out of gas and had to dead stick into a field of cow shit. Randy came to my rescue with gas and I flew it out of that pasture. It was not long enough though, and I took out some barbed wire at the end of the diked field. I could see Randy pushing his hands and arms upward, trying to will the airlplane into the air. I made it. I dont know how I got through. But, I did. I had wire hanging from the gear. But, I made it home. All Don said was, at least you got that one out of the way!!!! HA!
