I am taking this religion and cultures class this semester to get my humanities credit and part of the curriculum for the class is we have to post a discussion on certain topics in the discussions board. This week, part of the discussion is about the image of Jesus on the cross and how it has changed. In my opinion, and God forgive me if I am wrong, is that the image of Jesus matters not. The professor of that class posted that he thinks it’s time for the image of Jesus to change again, that it is not current with the times today. I do not understand his reasoning behind this. How do we know what Jesus looked like? Why is that so important to certain individuals? To me the imagery of Jesus is far less important than the actual faith that Jesus is in our hearts. We tend to idolize images of Jesus and put our faith in those images instead of Jesus, God, himself, and the Bible speaks against that by saying not to worship false idols. While although we may not realize it, I think some idolize the images associated with Christ rather than Christ himself, such as the rosary and the cross.
