I am thrilled to announce that tonight the City of Satellite Beach City Council voted unanimously to pass a resolution opposing seismic airgun testing! This is great news for our local beaches, fishing and tourism industry, marine wildlife and the Atlantic Ocean! I want to thank Vice-Mayor Lorraine Gott, Councilman Dominick Montanaro, Mayor Frank Catino, Councilman Mark Brimer and Councilwoman Sheryl Denan for voting for this resolution. I also want to thank City Manager Courtney Barker (not pictured) for all her work on this effort. This resolution will join the other five that have passed in Florida and be sent to the Obama Administration. It is critical that local impacted communities voice their concerns regarding seismic airgun testing and the eventual oil and gas drilling it brings. We will keep working until every impacted Brevard County community, and Florida community, has had the chance to speak out in opposition. I also want to thank Surfrider Foundation, Marine Resources Council, Southeastern Fisheries Association, Anglers for Conservation, Sierra Club - Florida Chapter and Pelican Island Audubon Society for their support in this effort to protect our beaches.
