I am very blessed to have two wonderful children. Jim and I have ALWAYS put them first. I lived alone during the week for SEVEN years so that they could attend the private college of their choice. I have always been a helicopter mom and I speak with them at least twice daily if I am away. I have sat through every ball game, soccer game, young -life meeting, PTA meeting, been a Girl Scout leader and on and on. I moved to Chicago to live with my husband after seven years and his open heart surgery. He was without a job this April and we barely had enough money to eat out or go to the movies until ....this coming week. Katie bought her wedding gown on her first outing ( which she said she would just "look"). We were FaceTiming and messaging because this was her first trip looking. She found the dress. I was with her on the phone and I paid for it, but not in person. BAD MOTHER!!! She is marrying a wonderfully musically talented young man and they have THEIR OWN ideas about their music(Katie ALWAYS has) and their service. I have helped with the bridesmaid outfits and groomsmen attire. I have helped look at vineyards and other places for the reception. I have looked through pictures, save- the- dates and invitations. John spoke with us before the proposal. I knew the details before Katie did. There is much, much more! I say this because I have heard that a couple of my friends have said that Katie is my only daughter and I should be more involved in her wedding and fly to NC more often. It appears that you do not really know either one of us very well. I am really, really hurt. You have no idea how it is to work two jobs in Chicago and help Jim find a job and keep his spirits up, help plan a wedding and gelp our son as well. Katie is NOT taking a backseat to Jim or Andy. She is the sweetest, most beautiful, brightest and fiercely independent young woman that has ever walked this earth. Finally.....SHE knows and my family knows and if you knew me, you would know that I am a very good mother to her and to Andy.
