I am very deeply troubled by the police state erupting in Ferguson, Missouri. No matter WHAT your skin color, no matter WHAT you believe about the shooting of Michael Brown , the FACT is that the police have evicted most if not all journalists. There are multiple reports of police indiscriminately firing tear gas and flash bombs into peacefully-assembled crowds (hours before curfew). Police are also accused of driving armored vehicles through neighborhoods, indiscriminately tear-gassing whole communities. Without journalists, we have no way of knowing whether this is the truth or not. Without journalists, we have no recourse against police brutality. Without freedom of the press, we HAVE NO FREEDOM. This goes beyond marshal law. It sounds more like a brutal, third-world regime or a military coup. I am debating whether to drop what Im doing and travel to Ferguson right now to act upon my right to peaceably assemble and silently protest police violence as a citizen of the United States of America, where we are supposed to have a Constitution.
