I am very sad today while posting this for Elins sake. She was doing well recovering from her pelvic fracture repair- we just had our first recheck yesterday. At midnight last night I discovered a HUGE corneal ulcer on her remaining eye. We immediately were seen on and ER at Palm City Animal Medical Center and began treatment. This afternight the eye and the ulcer spontaneously sloughed off. NOT A GOOD THING. We were seen by Dr Todd Strubbe at the Animal Eye Specialty office immediately. He is recommending a surgery for her that I CANNOT ethically condone for one of my dogs- She needs a corneal transplant from a cadaver donor- this means a DEAD dog from the shelter in Palm City-- I cannot and will not do this surgery. Not mentioning that its $2000 k - the $$ is not the issue. We have a 50% chance that her eye will repair with drops EVERY TWO hours- just as baby Gizmo had to endure. So here we are, she is heavily sedated and is getting three diff drops every two hours until further notice. She is still on play pen rest for the next week due to her hip recovery and now this. Elin has been thru enough in her little life. If you pray, please do so for her, she is a sweet soul who needs a break. thank you so much!! lkh
