I am wary of any coach who utters that there is no such thing as a moral victory. To evaluate only the win column is to define life in narrow terms. Victory can be found in correction, self evaluation and reflection. These are more often than not spurred on by a loss. In this past year my oldest had his greatest accomplishment only because of a competitive loss. In the past three weeks I have seen a life transformation of another young man because of a similar loss. In Gods realm competitive results are not even a vapor, but they can be the whetting stone of growth. I teared up with the small losses these two boys experienced. They are but mere disappointments. I have wept repeatedly, however, in simply recalling the maturation victories that followed. They were given lessons and tools that will allow them great movement for God. Life should never be judged by a scoreboard but we can learn a lot by our reaction to it.
