I am way over do on updating all of our friends and family on what has been going on with Dale Sims. I know I have explained that he was transferred to Jefferson hospital in Philadelphia, that was last Friday August 1st. The reason we came down to Jefferson was to get an evaluation as to what other treatment options were available to treat the tumor that has come back. Well on our continuing roller coaster ride. A few hours after dale arrived here he through a blood clot to his lung. Angela and I were with him as his oxygen level kept dropping an d they had to call a code blue on him. Not for his heart but for his breathing. Thankfully he was here at Jefferson they immediately intubated him and put him on a respirator. Took him to cat scan and was transferred to ICU within about 30 minutes. He did so well Friday night that they took him off the respirator on Saturday. He did really well all day Saturday but ran into more respiratory problems Saturday night. He was re intubated and placed back on the respirator. He has proceeded to throughout the week. On Thursday they placed a trache into his throat. Not to breathe for him but to protect hi airway as we were unsure if he had the ability to swallow. He has done very well since he has had the trache. He was removed from the respirator on Friday morning and kicked out of ICU on Friday afternoon. He is now in a step down unit breathing complexly on his own. And getting a little stronger every day. Now onto the news about the treatment options for his tumor and plans for the future. The tot board here discussed dales case and they agreed he would be a good candidate for re radiation to his head. Which will be starting next week while he is still here in the hospital. The medical oncologist was also very positive that he had some chemo therapy options that may work well to help dales tumor. If the radiation works well he may not even need the chemo at this time but that is certainly an option for the future if needed. Also dale will probably be going to an intensive rehab from here to regain a lot of the strength that he lost both from the tumor and from laying in bed for over a week. He has already been seen by the rehabilitation doctors and that is the plan. Now we have to hope that my insurance will approve it. But I am thanking God every day for the positives in our life that he has brought us through the most difficult week of my life and that he has provided options to treat dales cancer.
