I am worried about Farsi language; very worried. I can see no - TopicsExpress

I am worried about Farsi language; very worried. I can see no solemn measure is taken with this regard and there are many attacks on the language [of Farsi]. Foreign expressions are constantly being used. Friends! The Farsi language was once the language of science from then the Constantinople - the Istanbul of today- to the Indian peninsula; what I am saying is based on the information [I have]. In Istanbul, the capital of the Ottoman Empire- for a long period of time Farsi was the official language. In the Indian peninsula the most outstanding figures would speak Farsi and when the British first came to the Indian Peninsula, one of the measures they implemented was to stop Farsi; they impeded Farsi with their various tricks and deceits particular of the British. Of course Farsi is still common and has lovers there; there are people in India- where I have been to and have visited- and there are Indians who have come here- and I have met them- who love Farsi language; however we are forgetting Farsi in the hub of Farsi language. We are taking no steps to enforce, deepen and expand it and to prevent foreign interferences. They write Farsi names in English alphabets! Why? Who wants to use it? One who speaks Farsi or one who speaks a foreign language?! A Farsi name with English letters! Or foreign names are put on products made in Iran- photos of which they have sent to me! Yes, you may want to export a product, then along with Farsi, you would need to use the language of the destination country- but without removing Farsi. Farsi should never be removed from our products. But as for a product made and consumed domestically, why would we need to use [a foreign language]? Why would we need to write foreign expressions on school children’s backpacks? Or on toys? I truly get shocked. This is among the things that you are greatly responsibility for. But to deal with this does not mean to urgently treat it by aggressive or forceful means. [It should be done] wisely. Find out how you can prevent it. Ayatollah Khamenei, 10/12/2013
