I attempted to catch a tram in St Petersburg. I boarded. I had no idea how the ticket system worked, so I walked up to the conductor and held out a handful of coins. This is the point of a conductor, surely? She responded by shouting at me in Russian. When I didnt understand, she shouted at me some more in Russian, only more loudly. After a little bit of this, I got off and waited for the next tram. On this one, the conductor did at least sell me a ticket.
