I attended an amazing lecture last night at Birkbeck University! Two and a half hours of a gripping, provocative and most illuminating presentation on the Future of Digitalised Education and our Society by Chad Manian- Market Analyst, Lecturer & Researcher, currently researching Behavioural futurism, social prediction, chronology and advanced neuro-fuzzy logic. As Technology and our use of it increases and diversifies -and thereby our reliance on it), our Society and especially the younger elements (pre mobiles and computers) is affected by it in the following ways Attention span diminishes We want (or get used to) immediate gratification Neural pathways change and we become less empathetic Artificial intelligence will become more prevalent in the workplace Robots will replace workers Competitive elements in our personality can further dominate Sociopathic elements /qualities in our Society take precedence over creativity and Art Many of the above have already been seen in movies (Terminator. AI, Wall Street etc) Our education prioritises a way of learning that is result or profit led that benefits individuals rather than Communities. He said a LOT more than all this, but he had me hooked. With Scientists, Physicists and VERY well educated people in his audience it was testimony to his research and his stature. I will be following him with interest and with hope that relevant counter measures can be affected which will enable the individual and our society at large to benefit.
