I began the agonizing process of writing several stories some years ago, and I decided to take a gander at these ‘works in progress.’ The files were saved on a flash drive. I changed the file that I was viewing, which contained the equivalent of about 40 pages in a standard novel, so I decided to make a quick save. During this save, I received an error message about the file path, which was odd as the drive was fully connected, and then I was prompted to change the file name. I did just that, but the file corrupted itself and all data was lost as the program shut down entirely. All my attempts to recover the data failed, and the file, get this, erased itself off of my flash drive, leaving me with an invalid shortcut. I felt my heart in my toes and I was close to shitting myself, until I realized that this file was backed up on my back-up hard drive. True value tends to strike sourly when seen through the thought of a loss, as opposed to being as should be. I see this as point to the purpose in finishing a picture that I should have had painted long ago.
