I believe the media needs to stop utilizing these terror incidents for hype and blanket them as much as possible during the initial incident until after the incident in my opinion. The aim of all terror situations are not to fulfill a sole act but to CREATE terror. This is done through creating a situation which will stimulate maximum exposure to perpetuate and maximize the fear it creates. This is done through dramatic acts such as high scale/impact bombings or prolonged hostage situations which build attention to the maximum/desired point before execution. Unfortunately the aim of this hostage situation is not to obtain anything other than the maximum exposure possible usually before they execute the plan. The media exposure is the main aim of the terrorist plan as it is the primary tool used to spread the terror. Although this is hard and goes against the purpose of the media to break news, it us their choice what they publish. The headline publicity they provide the terrorists gives them the exactly and only the thing they want- the maximum spreading of fear and terror they want and need to succeed in terrorism. In theory how successful would terrorism become if their actions were downplayed or not heard about. And how long would they continue to use that method without the outcome they desire?
