I came across a Facebook post, the person posting was asking people what he could pray for them. There was over like 300 requests for prayer. I began reading many of the prayers, scrolling down looking at them. One thing stood out to me, just about all the prayers I read were like this. I need money I need a new job I need to get rid of this sickness I need this new house I need a spouse I need to be healthy I need, I need, I need And seeing these prayers requests sure makes it evident that so often in prayers, we focus on ourselves, its all about what I need or want. Now Im not saying this to say its wrong to ask the Lord to provide the things we may actually need, nor am I saying this as if Im not guilty of having prayers like this at times either. What I am saying is that we (and I include myself) can be very selfish in our prayers and focused on the I need, rather then on praying for others. For example praying for the persecuted Christians around the world, or for lost souls to come to Christ. Even praying for the benefit of others at the cost of our expense. How much time do you spend in prayers each day? We are told to pray without ceasing. When was the last time you wept in your prayers for others? These are just things to consider, because we can become complacent and our prayers can become a routine we just follow and do without any real heart behind them. Just some thing to think about. If honest many of us can relate to this at times.
