I can dig it. Labeling a Jamaican immigrant to the US as an African American denies their Jamaican heritage. They may be genetically traced back to africa, but having been seperated by many generations from africa they are not culturally african. I refuse to use the label African American. That phrase is a verbal brainwash designed to maintain a false tribal identity among black people who, in reality, are largely of unknown genetic heritage (africa is a big place) and encompass at least the same degree of genetic difference as the irish do from the greeks. Convincing them that they are all on the same team and playing a game against the whites and the hispanics makes them, as well as the other two groups, more easily manipulated politically and engineered socially. The whole race is a social construct idea that is constantly shouted down here is actually true, but most people misunderstand the meaning of the phrase. It does not mean that genetic difference is unimportant in any sense. It means that a persons race, as commonly defined in any given society, is not defined according to their genetic heritage. It is defined by the history and culture of that society. In the US this definition is influenced by a history of slavery, and in our system a half-slave was 100% slave by birth. This persists in a politically corrected form to this day, and that is why the first African American president had a white mother.
