I can hardly believe what I just heard. The federal government - TopicsExpress

I can hardly believe what I just heard. The federal government has told the LDS church that they must report the Social Security numbers of anyone who receives more $600 in charitable assistance from the church. This was told to me by a bishop who has received instructions from SLC concerning this new regulation. So many questions... Why does the government care who is receiving help from their church? Why a $600 threshold? Do they honestly think people are scamming the government over $600? What will the government do with this information? What kind of tax liability does charitable giving now create? For the giver and the receiver? Is this true of all churches and charities? If so why hasnt there been a huge outcry?
