I can never understand those who dismiss others because of status, or money, or their lot in life, then try to justify it, or rationalize it as a defense mechanism of their own lack of humility. The word we used to use for those kind of people is snobs. I have always, my whole life, tried to treat others with respect and value despite their financial class in life. My daddy ALWAYS told me that I should talk to, and respect, the poor man the same as the rich man, and anyone in between. I marveled at his ability to do this for years. If you know my daddy, you know what Im talking about. I watched him support poor men with the few dollars he sometimes had and watched him hobknob with rich folk with the same regard when he was well off. It just makes me want to puke when i see women and men think so little of people who dont share their stature in life. When Im in a seedy honky tonk bar, I talk to the local uneducated redneck the same way I talk to the wealthy dude that parks next to us at the Clemson games. I would go out with a cashier at the grocery store or a female doctor at the hospital with no distinguishable difference in respect and I value the opinion of any man who has something to say. If youre a friend of mine....know that you are... because of WHO you are NOT what you can do for me, or whether or not you look good next to me at the cotillion or the Republican fund-raiser. I dont care what any else thinks. They would be a bunch of fakes and pretenders. Now Im done venting.
