I can take this city with its nightlit adolescent insolence, - TopicsExpress

I can take this city with its nightlit adolescent insolence, railing at nothing and everything at once, pretending it has something to prove. i can take it down and pull it into me like rivers and lovers or moments in time, breathe and watch apartments war on the horizon angry sons of a tired womb. I can take this city down into the heart of me, the warm, mosquito-bit blood drawn from veins and poured into streetlamps until the city too is my beat and my blood until i too am part of this city pulled and pulling and never quite satisfied; until i too breathe carbon and exhale light clouds in the air, like snow falling slowly, spreading upwards, waiting for the ground . . . if I could capture this city in a song it would go boom, boom, shusssssssssh feet on pavements, lips on lips: if the taste of sunshine could fade from my mouth and the feeling of sweat on my tongue perhaps I’d forget you, bridges, sky-scrapers and walking with me - if this city could drain from my senses perhaps you too . . .
