I choose to remain estranged from my 45-year-old brother, because hes never been gainfully employed more than a few months at a time. He has a criminal record of forgery, theft, and God knows what else... Hes been in and out of rehab countless times. Hes faked cancer and heart problems to get sympathy. He has taken me and various family members for tens of thousands dollars. Sadly, my mother, whos couch he sleeps on, refuses to accept the reality that I have no place for the scumbag in my life. I would not surround myself of these dubious types on other areas of my life, I refuse to associate with this sociopath either. As some of you may know, my beloved grandmother passed away a few months ago. She and I were very tight. She left my mother a small fortune, which will keep my mother comfortable the rest of her life. Meanwhile, my brother is benefiting from the fruits of my grandmothers labors as my mother showers him with material things, sustenance, and a couch to sleep on. Today, my brother stopped by to drop belated birthday presents off for my boys, who he has no relationship with. He dropped by unannounced, and he was driving a brand new truck with a motorcycle in the back. Apparently Grandmas money is being put to work. (smh) Tomorrow, the gifts are being dropped in the mail, to be sent back. This will cause a huge (another) rift between my mom and I. She will accuse me of being the jealous middle child; -I have heard that one before. Still, the stuff will go back. Im not interested in the dysfunctionalism from that part of the family. I see where this is going... My mother is beginning to hold her new found wealth out like a carrot. I categorically reject that, and my rejection of my brothers gift overture to my kids will garner the threat of me being disinherited from my mother. I can live with that. Ill go to my grave knowing that I am not a whore to dear ol mom. Yup, the gifts go back tomorrow. Alas, Id rather go to my grave with a clear conscience
