I consider myself to be extremely fortunate to have had all of my grandparents until 3 years ago January 16th. As the oldest grandchild on both sides of my family, I had contemplated giving the first eulogy when the time came and in fairly quick succession, I delivered eulogies for two grandfathers and one grandmother. I found the process of writing and delivering my thoughts and feelings grueling but cathartic and rewarding beyond measure. Aside from all that I was able to share after 40 + years with these incredible role models, the experience kick started a mature and at times panicked exploration of my life’s intentions. I took more than a year off from the insanity that is financial services to practice yoga and to be with my family, who I felt I had neglected as I had over emphasized earning a living and reaching my career goals. This past year, largely inspired after witnessing the love and dedication from family and friends that was required as we helped my grandparents manage the last months and days of their lives, I’ve continued to think about my priorities - more specifically, my family and friends. For me, my family has become my best friends and my friends have become family. Even during my darkest moments, I consider in amazement my great fortune to be surrounded by such talented, interesting, loving, intelligent, diverse, and special people. As 2015 commences, I wanted to express both my gratitude and my continued excitement to have all of you in my life. I’m looking forward to all that we have planned – Tracey Countryman’s 40th celebration, the Kentucky Derby, Chance’s high school graduation, and the millions of surprises along the way. Happy New Year
