I continue to ask the question: Why is this being presented as a dispute between Democrats and Republicans? This is a dispute between the Republicans and the Constitution. One third (1/3) of the legislative components, the House, does not, according to the Constitution, get to make laws. It requires all three (3) components, the House, the Senate and the President to make laws. This is made explicit in the Constitution including the section indicating that revenue bills must originate in the house by indicating, explicitly, that they must be also be approved "as any other bill". Amendment 14, section 4 REQUIRES that the public debt of the United States shall NOT be questioned and section 5 gives Congress the duty to see that it is not. A raising of the so called debt ceiling is required by the Constitution.
