I cringed while reading some of the comments in this article. Most of my fellow Filipino people are asking for war against china as if our jingoistic idea of being a dominant race can get us through this dispute. I hate it when people speak of war without contemplating the consequences of it. NOBODY WINS A WAR. Ive heard the tragedy of warfare from old people. Ive read stories about how devastating war can be when triggered with hate. Ive seen lives wasted without any assurance of victory. I believe that it is our right to depend our territory, unfortunately, we dont have any dominant strategy to secure our assertion for it. first, We have a very weak military force compared to china. Meaning they have an absolute advantaged when war breaks out. They can just detonate nukes to annihilate Philippines if they wanted to. Second, we are confiding more on the mutual defense treaty between the phils and the US, but we really dont know if this two superpowers would engage to war knowing that they are also protecting their own interest. We have to concede that in this fiasco, we are the worst off. I know the need to defend is a must for it will reflect the dignity of our country. but for once, we have to THINK deeply. you must not start a fire, when youre not capable of killing it.
