I decided to delete a post I had posted earlier due to safety. FYI: do NOT use any type of mason jar in an oven. Yes I have done it many times but for your safety I am recommending you do NOT. This information was found on the Bernardin Home Canning page: 4) OVEN CANNING Not only is it unsafe, oven-canning can be extremely hazardous. Regardless of the brand of oven, jar, cap or lid you use, jars can break or explode due to temperature fluctuations when the oven door is opened. When you preserve food, it is important to know and control temperature. Oven temperatures vary according to accuracy of the oven regulator and how heat circulates. Also, dry heat penetrates food jars very slowly. Moreover, the temperature of the food inside the jar is not heated sufficiently to destroy microorganisms. Thanks to Tammy for pointing this out!
