I did a school visit as a childrens book illustrator today. First one Ive done in a long time. It was way south of Olympia, so I had to get up early and get out the door to be down there by 9:30. I had 4 sets of kids for 45 minutes each time with lunch in the middle. By the third set I was getting worn out but thanks to lunch I had gotten a bit of energy back. The fourth set of kids where very unruly and I had reached my limit. I was barely able to make it through that batch. The other thing I noticed was that upon repeating the same set of artwork and explanations and prompting the kids with questions to them… I found my words to be stupid and I had become irritating to myself. That was really a weird feeling and something that only repetition could provide. One of the good things to come from this was that the books I brought with me to sell, completely sold out and I came back from the visit with some bucks to spend. Wish I had brought more books with me! Thanks Jody!! Sorry there arent any pictures… I was going to do a selfie with each class but as it turned out I was way too busy.
