I didnt write the following, but it sums it up well. It is ridiculous that the government is seriously prosecuting this. When we did the atheist bench in Starke Florida, Eric Hovind jumped up on top of it and started to preach. That was disrespectful to some of the atheists there, others like me just thought it was comical. So should he be prosecuted as well as preaching on an atheist monument can be seen as disrespectful? No, it is his right of freedom of expression. And he actually damaged the monument as well when he stood on the top of it, but it was accidentally and not on purpose. The people that support this prosecution may be more happy in a theocracy instead of a country that has freedom of expression and speech. Wish there was a way to prosecute city governments when they enforce laws that later are seen as unconstitutional as this one surely is. Can it be seen as offensive and disrespectful of someones belief? Absolutely. Would I behave as this kid did? Absolutely not. Does free speech and expression only protect speech and expression you agree with, or is the main reason for the 1st ammendment to protect people from being prosecuted for speech and expression that offend and disrespect others? The answer is obviously the later...
