I discovered something about my blue guitar this morning: it weighs a LOT more than the purple one does. But the most interesting contrast between the two instruments, which I did already know, is that the necks are two different lengths. My blue Telecaster has a standard length neck that goes to 19 frets. But my purple Stratocaster has 5 more frets, or 24 to make a full 2 octave range. That extra neck was one of the main reasons I got it (that, and it was purple. At the time, Kathy was playing a purple bass and we wanted to match). But I didnt anticipate the difference in muscle memory; when Im on the blue one, my hand zips up the neck and says A is right there. And it is. On the purple one, my hand does the same thing and says I dont know what that note is, but A is over there. So Ive started switching them from week to week so I can train my hands to be accurate with either one. And know the difference instinctively. Thats the big one, the one thats going to take some time. But this team/church/family is worth it. *music nerd mode off*
