I do not ask for much on mother’s day because I feel like - TopicsExpress

I do not ask for much on mother’s day because I feel like mothers do everything for everyone day in and day out while historically men are awarded for everything that they do. Nobody ever asks a man how he manages to handle work and a family. When people ask me how I handle three jobs, four kids, and two PhD programs but still manage to be there for the kids basketball, soccer (to include coaching three seasons), violin, a kid with special needs and IEP hell; they are asking more than how I handle a career and a family, the more common question is still gender biased. Women do this because we have always known that the same promises that are there for men are less available for us. I live in a world where a male soldier will put himself in for a medal for cleaning up in a soup kitchen while his wife or mother watch the kids. A similarly ranked mother is unlikely to be able to do the volunteer work and therefore misses out on the same medal. To illustrate hypocrisy with bull shit, my division officer at NOPF Dam Neck in 2000 put himself in for a medal for handing out beer at a KISS concert and housed it as “High volume volunteer work” for his church. His wife watched the kids so he could hand out this beer. BTW this same officer was arrested but never charged for beating his wife. When he was arrested the charges were dropped so that he could go to pastoral counseling with the same church. Watch Constantine’s Sword, which should be titled “American Christian Taliban.” We have unequal work in the family and that drives unequal opportunities elsewhere. To placate women and make us feel special, we get a happy, fluffy, dress up and go out and eat day in May. We have a day that tortures service staff at major restaurants –the only upside is significant money being made. We have a day where there is a four-hour wait at the Cheesecake factory and mothers should feel honored to have this thrown it at them. Are we clear?
