I do not support the riots and violence in the Ferguson protests and I actively tried to prevent people from damaging things in Oakland to the best of my ability. It supports the actions of the police, and turns people that otherwise would support this cause against it. That being said, people have protested peacefully over and over and over again. For Trayvon, for Oscar Grant, for Sean Bell, for the countless number of black men who were killed indiscriminately by police forces that will face no consequences. Darren Wilson, for his effort, received $432,000 in donations and gets to walk free. This is abominable and repugnant in the strongest sense of the words. It seems that the people in power do not listen when people are peaceful and civil. So while, I dont agree with violence in principle, it is not effective. I do understand the rage that people feel. There has been an ongoing war against young black men in this country since its foundation and perhaps that is more important than some broken windows and stolen merchandise.
