I dont drink wine so I have no idea what the deal is with saving the corks. But my wife drinks wine and she saves the corks. Of course, they need to be cleaned before you store them which is why this morning when I went downstairs there were a few of them floating in a bowl of water. You soaking corks again? She looked at me over her glasses for a moment before replying. Maybe you need to soak a cork or two. Ever think about that? Well if I drank enough wine, maybe I would. Yeeeahhhh... No. Somehow I just dont see that happening. At this point Megan, who was working in the next room, doubled over laughing at something or other and interrupted us. We never finished the conversation. I know Im no connoisseur, but I kinda wanted to know why it is my wife thinks Im incapable of learning to properly soak corks. How hard can it be? You get a cork, you soak it until it is clean and soft, let it dry a while, then put it away, right? Maybe you rotate the cork while soaking it but there cant be that many variations on this theme. Ill need to continue this discussion when Meg isnt around to interrupt us. Theres lots of stuff my wife is good at that Im not - like body language and social interaction - and I always acknowledge her gifts (or my deficits) in these areas. But this seems way too straightforward an activity to claim I could never master it. Sometimes I just dont get her.
