I dont have a child learning common core, but I think at the heart of it, it makes sense. Its taking a more logical and methodical approach to help each child see the numbers and solve math problems with confidence. I was one of the lucky ones who actually understood the old way of teaching and was able to visualize math, but some people werent able to and I think some of the common core methods would have helped. Instead of parents getting upset that things are changing, why not take the suggestion of the author and figure out the methodology behind things before criticizing?? It might make a world of difference to your children and their ability to do math. Heck, they might actually learn to love it, just like I do!
