I dont know how some small businesses are surviving in London - TopicsExpress

I dont know how some small businesses are surviving in London these days. Thought I would revive an old watch; theres a watch repairers right next to my office so I go there with my old watch. Only one person standing in front of the kiosk whilst it looks like repairer is working on a watch. He doesnt even look up to acknowledge a potential customer so I say excuse me, do you sell batteries? He barely looks up...just basically looks over the rim of his glasses with a serious angry professor-like expression on his face and nods once, then looks straight down again before I could even ask if he had the specific ones I needed. I decided to wait...assuming that he was doing something more complicated than changing a battery. I waited, he did one watch then picked up another watch. He did that watch then picked up a 3rd without even asking me what kind of battery I needed. After 5 mins I got fed up and walked away. I wasnt expecting him to drop what he was doing to serve me, but if he simply acknowledged my presence and said something like be with you in a minute I would have waited and he would have had the chance to work on a legendary watch. Its not so surprising when u get rotten customer service from Tesco or McDonalds but when its from a small business who clearly should be fighting for new customers it makes me wonder!
