I dont know what it is about Bhangra competitions and house music, lovingly referred to as my thinking music. The two combined together engage a storm of wild thoughts in my head. As I sit here in terminal 1 waiting for my connecting flight to Pittsburgh, the beat and melody is invoking emotions that I only acquire during a Bhangra weekend. Why am I squinting to hold back tears of happiness? I guess you have to be in the Bhangra game to understand why this happens, or even how this happens. Staring out the window at an altitude of 36,000 feet, you do find yourself analyzing life, and your journey here on earth. The truth of the matter is, life consists of both good and bad moments, its a formula that we cant change, but its something that we can learn to accept. Those who know me, know Ive experienced my fair share of both good and bad. If theres one thing thats helped bind a force of strength and positivity, it would be Bhangra. Bhangra is THE celebration of life. Its that one drug, once induced into your bloodstream, cannot be let go. Its the one force that can (albeit slowly) turn a frown into a smile. To think back many moons ago, when I was a young lad walking around with a camera, Id never have thought Id be here; touring North America, attending all these amazing shows, meeting so many amazing people, leaving a legacy for future generations to enjoy. Amongst all the hardships and hurt Ive felt in my life, nothing can revive me better than knowing whats about to happen when this plane touches the ground, seeing the smiles on everyones faces, who all collectively share a common goal and passion: Bhangra. As were bouncing around in the clouds descending into Pittsburgh, Ill close this with a few simple words: love life, love the people around you, and always remember that our journey is a short one, but a sweet one. Get involved with your culture, set a good example for our youth, and leave a legacy to be remembered. My Bhangra weekend starts now, what a weekend its going to be. Hi Pittsburgh :) -hh
