I dont subscribe to this mentality that the entire situation in Ferguson is all about the fires. As I made a post yesterday about this, all the media is covering is the violence, cause lets face it, it sells. Fact check: Several protests broke off, some went to the freeway, some went to a part of town near Grand Street (I cant remember right now what the intersection was), some were at churches (which, by the way got tear gassed). Not everyone in Ferguson with a grief is a looter or an arsonist. This is part of the smokescreen I was speaking about. FACT: Florissant was a KNOWN hotspot for violent activity, it is also the main area that saw the most destruction. Cop presence, next to NOTHING, despite the fact they KNEW it would see violence. FACT: The rather LARGE group by Grand Street were also patrons to a coffee shop by the intersection. There were some police presence there, but NONE of them were in riot gear. After the riot squad moved in, they threatened to enter the coffee shop and arrest everyone there, despite the fact that NONE of them were doing any wrong. The police also fired off several tear gas cannisters when people were leaving the building, despite the fact that this business had a patio area set up for their patrons. It wasnt until the owner of the coffee shop stepped outside and hollered at the police that it was PRIVATE PROPERTY, that the protestors there were GUESTS, that she pays $6000 a month for her business and that they were not welcome, that the police left the scene WITHOUT FURTHER INCIDENT. No windows were broken, no damage caused, no media coverage. So, PLEASE, for the love of unity, stop calling everyone thats got a grievance about this situation names, stop painting them all with the same paint brush, stop falling for the hype. Stop falling for the divide, because not everything thats happening at these protests is as it seems.
