I dont usually get into activist stuff on here but I hope everyone will take a moment to consider this. This is not a forward, Im not sharing this from someone else, I am acquainted with this situation personally. A few weeks ago, a man named Mubarak Bala was drugged, beaten and committed to a mental hospital by his family in Nigeria. Was he violent? schizophrenic? Delusional? Suicidal? No. Mubaraks only crime was that he was honest about being an atheist and no longer believing in Islam. Thats it. As he languished in the hospital, a sympathetic family member smuggled him a cell phone and he managed to tweet his predicament out to atheists he interacted with or in some cases befriended. They worked tirelessly to get his story out to the world and hopefully get him released. While their efforts did gain exposure for Mubarak, ultimately it was a strike at the hospital that got him released. He is currently free, but lives in fear and hiding from family and others who have wished him harm and even death. Death for having *different* beliefs! Mubarak is a humble and gentle man, who, after all that has been done to him, wishes no harm or retribution to those who would throw him back in the hospital or summarily kill hm. His capacity for forgiveness astounds me! There is hope for Mubarak, he has been accepted to an American University to study his Masters in safety. One thing stands in his way, money. So I ask, please watch this video. I have personally tweeted with everyone featured and they are all wonderful people. They just want to give Mubarak a chance to have the same kind of freedom that they and WE enjoy. If you arent able to contribute, I simply ask that you share his story.
