I dont vent too much on FB, but Im letting off a little steam today. I just have to. I just won second place in the annual bridal bouquet competition for FAR (Floral Association of the Rockies) and I shouldnt complain since I placed, right? And Ive won it before, so it isnt like Im desperate for a trophy. BUT Im confused. I was told by a contest administrator that I just missed First place by a few points. Looking at my scoresheets, two judges scored me high enough to place second even though the third judge, my friend Denise Capelli Aifd, gave me a 41 out of 100. Understand that 50 is average. She scored Balance at 3 out of 10 (although you can literally balance it on your little finger), Mechanics at 4 / 10, Creativity (artistic inventiveness & originality) at 4 / 10, Line at 4 / 10. Denise scored me a 5 / 10 (average) in Category Interpretation and 5 / 10 in Unity, and below-average in every other category. I dont understand how a judge could score this bouquet at 4 for the mechanics, which I thought were flawless. And low points for creativity? Really! ? ! I invented the wire armature supporting the best of roses. No one else even knows how to do that. Granted, she didnt like the bouquet. Ok. Thats fair. But the categories should be scored on their merits. Not on personal preference. That isnt fair. Im not looking for oh it was great comments... I already know it was great. Just needed to get ir out out of my system and I did. So thanks for listening.
