I dont want to talk about the death of Yanira. That is tragic - TopicsExpress

I dont want to talk about the death of Yanira. That is tragic enough, all of you can easily google it. I want to talk about her life. Every time Ive gone to Half Moon Bay, I met another person with a story about her. The first time we went, I met one of her teachers, then former classmates, and her family. The smiles and humor in all her pictures portray the Yanira that created joy and laughter and love in her community. Her obstacles were real obstacles, but she didnt deserve to have her life taken from her. The tragedy of it all is so startling on so many levels most of you cannot imagine. Ill just use geography as an example, her church, her school, the mental health office, and the police station are all right across the street from one another. Every demonstration is a poignant and bitter sweet moment in a town, the majority of which supports Justice for Yanira Serrano. And while formal justice may be ignoring the call therefore, the community has not people have grown closer to one another, supporting one another, and are struggling together. The passing of Yanira woke up and brought to the forefront long overlooked injustices and inequities in the community in such a way, that the community cannot and never will be the same. No one, wants this sort of thing to happen again, its a testament to the love, and humor with which she lived her life, and touched others. I always left Half Moon Bay with one thought, I rarely voiced, I regret that I never knew her in life. Because, anyone who can have such a powerful effect to and with so many, must have been a truly amazing and special person.
