I feel compelled to speak about a very controversial issue, suicide. In the last 5 years and even going back to 15 years ago, I have been affected personally by suicide in 6 different situations where 11 children have been orphaned. Do I understand mental illness? Yes, I do. I have lived with people affected by the disease. Do I agree with suicide? No, I dont. I do believe it is a selfish act, an act that is chosen when people do not see a light at the end of the tunnel...a split second decision. Furthermore, I truly believe that if they waited a few more seconds, hours or days that they would see the light. If we are to help, let us recognize the symptoms and get them help before they make that last fatal decision.
