I feel that many artists today are not willing to take risks. To me part of what makes a great artist is someone who is not afraid to get their work out there. I have actually had artists that I have invited to be part of an exhibit say to me, can you guarantee me sales, well no, and truthfully no one can. If I am asking you to be part of an exhibit it is because I believe in your work and think that there is a market for it. That is the best I can give you. But if you never take that chance how do you know. A couple of years ago I was invited to exhibit in Mongolia. I knew nothing of the art market there, and was speaking to the director through a translator so not sure they understood me, or I was getting all the information. For me I thought, how cool would it be to have that line on my resume. I sent my work, not thinking or caring that anything would sell, only that this was a rare chance for me. Well 2 of my three paintings sold, and the other was sent back to me damaged, yet it did not matter. I showed my work in Mongolia, how many artists can say that.
