I finally got around to seeing the season finale of Boardwalk - TopicsExpress

I finally got around to seeing the season finale of Boardwalk Empire, it really is a shame that more people in Ireland dont watch it. In a series that has stunned me with countless touching, well-written and beautiful scenes, I was blown away once again by this scene - such pure emotion and energy. Such a shame though, that such an experience came at the cost of one of the most unique characters in TV history, and the shows only one-hundred-percent likable character. You really have to feel sorry for Harrow throughout the show, he constantly suffered for the sake of other people who never cared for him. He went to war thinking he could change the world and make it better for everyone, but came home disabled, and found everything the same, or worse than he had left it - the only difference was that he was now shunned by everyone, even the government, who denied him a pension, and classed as a freak. But he never blamed anyone. His meeting with Jimmy was so perfect; both veterans, and both social outcasts unable to re-enter normal life due to their experiences in France; jimmy mentally scarred for life and Harrow physically. In a sea of greed Harrow was the only modest one, and when other characters were able to ride off into the sunset happy with wealth, because they were greedy and asked for more, Harrow suffered ultimately by asking for less, and trying to make those he cared about happy. That final scene, the dream, walking down the train tracks towards the home he could have had, and the life he could have lead if he only had been a bit more selfish, as he bleeds out under the Atlantic City promenade, while hundreds of drink and gamble away overhead, is so perfect - Tim Van Patten did it again. The worst part is thinking that the end is near for Boardwalk Empire.
