I finally got to ride my horse today, and what fun that was! I had a few moments of AHA! I think I count 3 beaming grins at my instructor - yay! I told him it was a good thing I dont have GP aspirations and he told me we would talk again in 5 years, since he thinks Im capable and so is my horse. Its nice to have a teacher who thinks I am smarter than I think I am! I have two questions. Ive heard conflicting theories on how a horse reacts to weight. One says that the horse will step underneath whatever is weighted. The other says that the will be pushed away from the weight. So, I guess, in the first instance, weighting the inside stirrup would get him to move to the inside, and in the second, it would make him move to the outside. Or is it collapsing to the inside that moves him to the outside? What do you think? Second thing is, do you think horses have any concept of an apology? I accidentally jabbed my boy in his oh so sensitive nose and I immediately and stupidly apologized to him. I always apologize to the dog if I tread on her by accident or some other thing and Ive never had a clue if animals can understand the emotion of I didnt mean to and I feel terrible about it, however it is communicated...I always feel so guilty if I unbalance him or use my leg too strongly - Im a bumbling foolish human and hes awfully patient, but it sure would be nice to think I can convey I didnt mean to to him.
