I find much joy, inner peace, and contentment when reading from the book of Psalm. This morning David shares in chapter 103 of Gods great love for us. What God does tells us what he is really like. If you are a new Christian or you have been for a number of years, we tend to want to live in the rear view mirror. Satan will give us a case of the Stinkin Thinkin, makes us want to believe that we are not worthy of Gods love. East and west can never meet. This is a symbolic portrait of Gods love and forgiveness. When he forgives our sin, he separates it from us and doesnt even remember it. We dont need to wallow in the past, for God forgives and forgets. God is like a father--tender and compassionate. Not all of us as a child had a tender and compassionate father, however. Too often, sadly, the cycles of abuse and dysfunction rob children of loving fathers. If it is your situation, God offers himself to you to be the Father you never had or perhaps you never needed. Of course, you cant go to the ballgame, fishing, shopping, etc. with God or be held physically by him, but you can receive his love in your heart by means of his Holy Spirit. God can tenderly heal your deep loss. We are fragile, but Gods care is eternal. Too often we focus on God as judge and lawgiver, ignoring his compassion and concern for us. When God examines our lives, he remembers our human condition. Our weakness should never be used as a justification for sin. His mercy takes everything into account. God will deal with you compassionately. Trust him.
