I first met my mother-in-law, Joan Winchell and her husband Barney - TopicsExpress

I first met my mother-in-law, Joan Winchell and her husband Barney the summer of 1986 shortly after Julie and I got engaged. During the drive from Wisconsin to Southern Indiana to meet her family (Julie was there)….I stopped about one hour away and called Julie’s home to touch bases with Julie. Joan answered the phone. Since she sounded exactly like Julie, I briefly shared where I was and when I would arrive and closed by saying, “see you soon, babe”. That was when Joan laughed and asked me if I wanted to speak with Julie. So that was the beginning of a special relationship over the years. Julie learned so much from her mom –especially Joan’s work ethic around the home – including cleaning, cooking and sewing, etc……which my life has been tremendously blessed by, as I had no clue of these qualities prior to our marriage, as I had proposed to Julie after being in her presence only a few hours. I often say, Julie was my best success in recruiting, and I attribute much of that to her mom’s teaching by word and example.
