I found something out with my husbands side of the family...their last name being Timms. His uncle said they came from Birmingham...but if you look at the records...they arent there...why...because they originally came from somewhere else, and only came to Birmingham to find work, but their parish records are back where they came from....his the Timms case..from Nottingham...then...there is a big gap...no records from 1820 on...its because the father was caught stealing a gentlemans horse..and was convicted of it, and he was transported for life....he took his two sons and his wife and a few others related, with him on the trip...now it wasnt only Australia people were sent to...it could be the Caribbean, Canada, the States, and South Africa...in the Timms case it was South Africa...the names are found in the1820settlers...and there were two ways of spelling it because, the two sons had a fight, and no one would back down...one brother said he had it..and spelled his name Timm as to have no association with the brother Timms....but they are the same family...they stayed there for 2 more generations, then his great-grandfather took his wife and kids and went back to England, Birmingham...stayed there for about 25 years, and emmigrated to Canada...he is buried in Prospect Cemetery with his wife.
